Dear Friends of MDP,

Yesterday ended our annual joint MDP Board Meeting. We took time to reflect on the blessings of God in this past year. Our biggest blessing is the protection of God in the lives of our Administrator, Ogoti Kenani and driver, Ogecha when they were car jacked on August 27. (Read the story "Today You Die") Imagine looking up to find three men standing with guns pointed at your head? We praise God for His arm of protection. Unfortunately, all the money for our lay workers for the month of August was stolen along with the lap top computer of Mr. Kenani and their cell phones. There was just enough money left in the account to pay the workers later with money that was to pay for their September stipends. We trust God that He will replace the money in time for our workers to be paid in September.

In Kajiado District in the past year 192 men and women were baptized with 130 still in baptismal classes and in Narok District 48 men and women were baptized with 64 in baptismal class.

Men and women in the adult literacy classes in the Kajiado District are 122. Of that number 33 took their government exams with 31 passing to receive their certificates. In the Narok District 51 are attending literacy classes. Seven people took the government exams with 5 receiving their certificates. Because of the draught in Kenya, and the movement of people to try and find food for their cattle, adult education dropped by a large number.

Because of the draught, many Maasai are suffering from hunger. In the month of May, the East African Division came to the rescue of one of our MDP stations with a food program. As the food was being distributed, many people came up to me smiling and shaking my hand or giving me a hug saying "thank you, this morning we were hungry, now I can feed my children."

MDP has joined hands with the East African Division in a food program. Thousands of people are literally starving. Children walk around hungry with distended stomachs. In many areas, most of the cattle have died leaving families without a source of income. If you would like to be a part of this program, please designate your donation for the "food program".

In August, the building program for the Siana children’s hostel was started. As of this writing, the water pipes and fencing are almost completed. On my trip in October, we plan to have groundbreaking for the Rescue Hostel (Medacta House). We praise God that He has provided the funding for the hostel and partial funding for the dining hall. If 50 people each found five additional people to donate $50 or ten people to donate $25, it would total $25,000. This would be enough money to finish building the dining hall and most of the worship center. Please join hands with us as we move forward in providing a safe home for our children.
