Come and be a part of this mission trip - Aug 27 thru September 10, 2008! While in Kenya you
will have the opportunity to visit the Giraffe Feeding Center, Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage,
worship in a Maasai Church, visit a Maasai family in their home, and do some shopping in
Nairobi.
We will be doing clinics on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve (approx 270k from
Nairobi) which is one of the best known and most popular reserves in the whole of Africa.
Perhaps it is because of the "big skies", the open savannahs, and certainly because of the
annual wildebeest migration, the density of game, and the variety of bird life. But more
importantly we are drawn to the area because of the tall red-robed Maasai people whose
lifestyle is completely at odds with western practices and through whom one learns to question
certain western values.

The Masai Mara lies in the Great Rift Valley. Every July and August over half a million
wildebeest travel over 600 miles from Tanzania’s Serengeti plains northwards to the rich
grazing lands of the Masai Mara. As the rains return in October they head back south again to
the plains of the Serengeti. There is nowhere else on earth to compare with this wildlife
marvel.
Our campsite is nestled in among the trees along a river bank on the northeast side of the
reserve. Each morning after breakfast and worship we will load up and head to the clinic site
– spending a couple hours on the way to enjoy the breath taking wildlife. On the way back to
the campsite each night we will eat sack suppers as we spend a few more hours enjoying the
animals. The campsite is very rustic, with pit toilets (with seats), showers are not always
hot (or warm) and there is a mixture of tents and cottages to sleep in. There is no
electricity. Because of our location being so remote and on the edge of the park, wild animals
frequent the campsite throughout the day and during the night. It is not uncommon to hear
hyenas laughing and lions roaring or grunting during the night.
Breakfasts and worships are early in the morning and it will still be dark so you will want to
have a good flashlight. (Besides you will want a flashlight for any trips to the toilet during
the night – we advise you to make as few as possible - SMILE)
Clinic will be Monday through Friday at Siana Springs Primary Boarding School from 10-3:30 pm.
From 3:30- 4 pm you will have opportunity to play with the children in the area and get to know
the people from the community personally. On Saturday, September 6 we will spend the entire day
enjoying God’s creation! We will drive to the Mara River, where we will have a picnic lunch and
enjoy the sites and sounds of hippos, view huge crocodiles and possibly witness the crossing of
the wildebeest through the river.
Sunday morning you will be spoiled by checking in to the Mara Sarova Lodge for a complete day
and night of great food, swimming and lots of R&R. You will have opportunity to take a hot air
balloon ride on Monday morning if you would like – (there is an extra cost for that)
This mission trip will be a great opportunity for you to reach out and share what Christ has
done for you with those who have not had the opportunity to know Him personally. You will be
able to use the gifts that He has given you to make a difference both physically and spiritually.
I have spent over 18 years living in Kenya and have a passion for the people of Africa. They
are thirsting for knowledge, and have the biggest hearts of anyone you will ever meet. You will
not be able to leave Kenya without being changed. I would like to personally invite you to come
and join me on this trip!
The Maasai people need physicians, nurses, hygienists, and dentists who can give of their time
to help. Even if you are not gifted in the medical area, but feel that this is something God is
calling you to be a part then we can use you. There are of course other opportunities to be a
part of this trip even if you cannot come yourself:
If you are interested in going on this trip you will need to download an application and fill
it out as soon as possible. We try to take only around 30 people on each mission trip. Please
note that all money donated is NON refundable.
If you have any questions please contact Kim at anytime.
We will need the following:
New or used glasses
Medicines and vitamins
Stickers, toys, crayons, pens, stuffed animals, baby blankets
